This issue honors the 200th anniversary of German printer and publisher, Ernst Litfass (1816-1874). He invented the free-standing cylindrical advertising column which bears his name in German (Litfaßsäule).
The obverse features an eagle framed by the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the letter “D” for the federal mint in Munich, the year 2016, and the twelve stars of Europe. In addition, the words "SILBER 925" are minted on the coin.
This is only the third issue from Germany since it was decided to change the denomination from €10 to €20, return the silver content to 92.5% Sterling, and again mint the circulating uncirculated version in a silver alloy since it was changed to base metal in 2011.
