Description
A5 1/2 inch tall
oval-shaped
pristine AMBER
colored
old CODEINE and CHLOROFORM COUGH SYRUP bottle.
This is a bottle that was put up by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company out of Kalamazoo Michigan. From what we have pieced together, this bottle was never filled but was sold empty as a "collectors sample bottle" based on what the box said that they originally came in. Again, they were truly
Upjohn Codeine & Chloroform
based cough syrup bottles but were never filled or sold full, instead sold to pharmacists and drug stores as display bottles for an advertising ploy. This is a cork-top bottle with the full label and
the bottle is empty
.
Bottle's label reads in part
: "
4 ounces CHERACOL with Codeine ... Each fluid ounce contains CHLOROFORM ... CODEINE PHOSPHATE ... THE Upjohn Company Makers of Fine Pharmaceuticals Kalamazoo, Mich.
"
Condition
: Bottle is in PRISTINE SPARKLING CLEAN condition as it was never buried, NOT a dug bottle. It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. PLEASE see pictures for better idea of overall condition
.
Age
: An early mold blown bottle (ABM) with a cork-top, ca. early-mid
1900's
.

domestic shipping,

insurance. We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
Again, we saw a box that originally came packed with 24 of these bottles. The box listed the contents as just what this bottle claims but also had printed on it in large letters "
24 - 4 ounce (Empty) Upjohn Cheracol Empty Collector's Bottles Sample Bottles
". In the box there was still a few of these bottles in pristine sparkling clean condition, all containing their original corks, but with NO contents, they were never filled. So I take that to mean that they were sold to pharmacists and drug stores as display bottles for an advertising display. Some even have the "M" in a circle, trade mark of the Maryland Glass Company I believe, the company that was formed by Mr. Bromo Seltzer himself (Emerson) to make his bottles since no other glass house could keep up with the demand for his bottles. Again, this is a cork-top bottle with the full label and the bottle is empty, so the age coincides with the Bromo Selter bottles as well. A great looking bottle in excellent clean condition,
